Vocational Education & Training

VET Certificate Courses offer the opportunity for Heathfield High School students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to complete specific vocational training from a range of industries, whilst still at school. All Certificate courses provide opportunities for students to gain accreditation in both -

  • VET competencies from National Training Packages
  • The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), as every fifty hours of a VET course that is completed successfully by a student equates to one SACE unit.

There are four main ways that Heathfield High School students can access VET courses -

  • Accessing full VET Certificate Courses offered at Heathfield High School.
  • Accessing full VET certificate courses through a Regional VET Program.
  • Undertaking some VET competencies that are embedded within SACE subjects at Heathfield High School.
  • Undertaking an Australian School Based Apprenticeship, which are individually negotiated with students to combine school, training and work.

The VET courses listed on this website (located at 'Choosing A Course' - 'Subject Information' - 'Subject Descriptors' - 'Vocational Education & Training (VET) Courses') are offered as an integral part of the Heathfield High School curriculum. Because of this, Heathfield High School will pay for the training component of each VET course listed on this website. Parents and/or students must pay the consumables component of the chosen VET course or courses. Students who elect to participate in a VET course other than those listed on this website will need to pay the full costs of that VET course, including both the training and the consumables components.

Regional VET Courses

Heathfield High School is a member of two VET ‘clusters’ –

  • School and Beyond (schools in the Adelaide Hills & Murraylands area)
  • East Adelaide Schools Cluster (schools in the eastern metropolitan area)

These clusters organise regional VET courses on behalf of their member schools. Students at any of the member schools can then access these regional VET courses, travelling to another school within the cluster for their training. Through this regional cooperation, a wider range of VET subjects are made available to students in the member schools, and excessive duplication of courses is avoided. These Regional VET courses are included in the Subject Details section of this website.

Students wishing to apply for one of these courses should select the course as part of their Heathfield High School subject selections, and should also complete an on-line application or written application form for the VET region. Students applying for Regional VET courses may need to attend an interview at the host school.

It is most important for students who are choosing to apply for a regional VET course, and their parents, to -

  • Read and understand the information on the 'School and Beyond' or 'Eastern Area Schools Cluster' websites.
  • Select the Regional VET course during the Heathfield High School on-line subject selection process.
  • Complete an on-line application for the regional VET course and submit it to Heathfield High School.
  • Pay any parent/student fee required for the VET course to the Heathfield High School cashier.
  • Contact Ms Sue Ludzay at Heathfield High School if you have any queries.
