Senior School Mentor Program

The mentor program aims to provide a more intensive and adult–like support base for students in their final years of schooling. The emphasis is on small groups as well as one-to-one meetings with the students and their mentor teacher, making more quality time and support for students possible. The program focuses on relationship building, goal setting, achievement and planning for post-school options.

Groups of approximately 14 students are assigned to a mentor (teaching staff member) who is responsible for -

  • Meeting regularly with students to build positive and professional relationships.
  • Monitoring students regarding attendance and punctuality to lessons.
  • Supporting and assisting students to be successful.
  • Reporting on student progress via school reports and parent contact when appropriate.
  • Providing career pathways and post school options advice.

The mentor program is designed to treat and value senior students as young adults. It is a supportive, consultative programme, which is based on the genuine interest for, and consideration of, each student. Mentor teachers elect to be part of the program, and as such, demonstrate a clear desire to be involved in all aspects of their mentor group’s progress throughout the year. Students in their final years of schooling need positive support, encouragement and guidance. There is clear evidence that three–way communication between the school, the student and home greatly increases a student’s chances of success. The mentor program is an effective way to support the success of each student and their pathways beyond school.
