Students experience a foundational knowledge of music. Students are introduced to a range of instruments including the guitar, drums and percussion. Students develop and perform a range of basic musical techniques. Students explore a basic introduction to music theory, and develop the ability to use appropriate terminology when discussing a musical performance. Students are encouraged to explore from a range of historical and contemporary perspectives; encouraging music making from diverse cultures.
For continuation of music in years 9-12 it is required to audition and to be of an expected level of music theory. Students will continue their development of reading, writing, learning and performing music.

investigation: music analysis of stylistic features to create musical context/perspective
Year 7 students who are currently learning an instrument are actively encouraged to consider our specialist year 8 music program. This opportunity should be identified at transition to Heathfield High School.
