10 Science Body and Mind

Year 10: Semester 1 / Advanced Technologies

Pre-Requisite: It is compulsory that students select one of the Semester 2 science courses. This is one of the options, the other options are:

  • 10 Science B Earth and Space
  • 10 Science B Biomedical

If a student wants to select more than one semester 2 science course they are able to select Biomedical Science as a choice subject. For example, a student could select either Earth and Space Science 2 or Body and Mind Science 2 as their Science Semester 2 Option and also select Biomedical Science 2 as a choice subject.

The course incorporates key ideas and associated standards of the Australian Curriculum as well as builds investigation, Analysis, and Evaluation skills required for SACE science courses.

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

This course is relevant to students with an interest in the Biology, Psychology or Nutrition subject areas. It provides insight into cognitive function and forensic psychology as well as a looking at how the human body copes with infection and disease.


Topics covered in this course include:

  • motivation and decision making
  • power of the brain
  • criminal profiling
  • emotions

Students will do this by investigating the following big questions.

  • what is consciousness?
  • why do we dream?

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the Science Australian Curriculum achievement standards.
These may include options such as:

  • practicals/investigations
  • research tasks or projects (group or individual)
  • topic tests

Additional Information

This is 1 of 3 choices available for students to choose a compulsory science subject in semester 2.


Various excursion opportunities may be offered to students which may incur additional costs.
