| SUBJECT OVERVIEWYear 7 English students will develop their understanding of the three interrelated Strands of: Literature, Language and Literacy. There is a focus developing student knowledge, understanding and skills in: reading, writing, viewing, speaking, listening and creating. Students are also taught strategies for further developing grammar, spelling, punctuation and clarity of ideas. 
 Students are exposed to a range of texts, both shared and independent, including plays, novels, poetry, short stories and films, as well as extracts of, and examples from, print and electronic media.
 
 A specific focus on the development of language features and stylistics devices will extend their thinking and understanding of how and why texts are created for specific purposes.
