SUBJECT OVERVIEW

The focus of this creative arts-based course is performance, through introductory music skills movement and theatre arts. Students will participate in group work exploring basic performance skills from applying body language/movement and vocal skills. Additionally, students will experience a foundational knowledge of music. Students are introduced to a range of instruments including the guitar and percussion. Students develop and perform a range of basic musical techniques.

Students will build trust with each other using social skills working in collaborative practice. Planning and rehearsing various roles and responsibilities that will build confidence, as students interact with others in a safe environment. Students explore a basic introduction to performance-based arts practice including drama and music theory, from a range of historical and contemporary perspectives.

Students are assessed against the Drama and Music Australian Curriculum achievement standards:

  • Folio documenting planning
  • Skill development
  • Performance
  • Analysis and reflection of others and own performance

Additional Information

Students are encouraged to select the Music experience program in year 7 if they play an instrument and would like to increase their musical knowledge and abilities.
