SUBJECT OVERVIEW

In this course, students will be introduced to the world of design, exploring its relevance to both product creation and career pathways. Through a series of visual communication projects, students will engage in the design process—from research and conceptual drawing to digital production and evaluation. They will develop skills in both hand-drawing and digital design using Adobe Creative Cloud programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Students will work to a set brief, produce a final product, and reflect critically on their creative process. Historical and contemporary design movements will also be explored to inform and inspire their work.

  • Principles and elements of design: Zine (product)
  • Adobe InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop tutorials

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the Visual Arts Australian Curriculum achievement standards:

  • Folio of development relating to design brief and process
  • Practical products
  • Visual study: analysis of design features and history of design
  • Reflection and/or evaluation of others and own design practice
