SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Students will be introduced to the world of design in relation to product and career. The design students will explore the design process within units of visual communication projects. Students will focus on both conceptual drawing skills and computer skills based on the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Students will be introduced to the history of design incorporating practical components to make a product, while working within a brief and evaluating their process and designs.

Topics may include

  • principles and elements of design: Zine (product)
  • Adobe Indesign/Illustrator/Photoshop tutorials
  • graphic design
  • design movements
  • environmental design
  • illustration
  • fashion design
  • reflection and evaluation
  • design and arts specific language and analysis

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the Visual Arts Australian Curriculum achievement standards:

  • folio of development relating to design brief and process
  • practical products
  • visual study: analysis of design features and history of design
  • reflection and/or evaluation of others and own design practice
