Year 9:  1 Semester (can choose visual art A and B for the full year) / The Arts

Students will continue to develop competency in the fundamentals of visual art establishing art practices. Students will increase their skills, knowledge and understanding of techniques to create ideas and concepts. Students will expand their thinking of artists and artworks that respond to social and historical contexts to create a voice in society. Students will be inspired and encouraged to develop their own relevant and personal ideas. Students will critically analyse artworks and evaluate practitioners and their own artworks.

Topics may include

  • drawing to create texture and movement including digital technologies
  • media techniques of pastel and acrylic painting
  • tessellation and escher
  • visual study: impressionism
  • portraiture
  • visual study asia focus
  • manga mask
  • multi-media construction
  • reflection and evaluation
  • arts specific language and analysis


Students are assessed against the visual arts australian curriculum achievement standards:

  • folio of development
  • practical artwork/ products
  • visual study: analysis of art movements reflection evaluation of others and own arts practice

  • A4 visual art diary
