10 Visual Art A

Year 10:  1 Semester (can choose visual art A and B for the full year) / The Arts

Student artists will refine their skills creating more complex art work with challenging projects. Students will continue to develop in creating work of 2D skills including the use of and digital painting technologies to continue to evolve their arts practice. Students will study historical and contemporary artists analysing artworks and experimenting with the art techniques, students will also be encouraged to engage in the work of these artists with application of these themes to form their own ideas and expand their creative ideas. Students will also contribute to art studio practice of reflection and evaluating of their own and others work, identifying areas of good arts practice and where improvements can be made.

This course can lead to Stage 1 Visual Art/ Design

Topics may include

Drawing 101:

  • observational drawing (skills: proportion, measuring, perspective)

Colour theory techniques:

  • blue rider movement and abstract expressionism
  • visual study of colour
  • portraiture, underpainting techniques
  • clay sculpting portraiture
  • visual study Archibald prize
  • hyper-realism
  • reflection and evaluation
  • arts specific language and analysis


Students are assessed against the visual arts australian curriculum achievement standards:

  • folio of development
  • practical artwork/ products
  • visual study: analysis of artists and art movements
  • reflection evaluation of others and own arts practice

  • A3 visual diary
