SUBJECT OVERVIEW

This engaging, semester-long course introduces students to the exciting world of game design and development, combining creativity, storytelling and technology. ALigned with the year 10 Australian Curriculum in Digital Technologies, students explore how games are created - from concept to playable prototype - while considering the impact of games on culture, society and the global creative industries. 

Students learn the fundamentals of game mechanics, character and level design, user experience (UX) and coding principles using industry-relevant tools such as Unity, Gdevelop or Scratch (depending on experience level). Students will develop problem-solving skills, work collaboratively in teams and gain insight into career pathways in game design, software development and interactive media.  

By the end of the course, students will have produced their own playable game, demonstrating their creativity, technical skills and understanding of design thinking.

ASSESSMENT

Students will complete several different assessment tasks, both formative and summative associated with learning content throughout the subject. Students will focus on using critical and creative skills to create digital outcomes and solutions to issues. These will be assessed against the Digital Technologies Australian Curriculum achievement standards.
