SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Design students will advance their skills through a choice of visual communications and product design. This includes pathways in graphic design, illustration, fashion design, architectural and interior design, and wearable art.

Students will elaborate on the design process by applying problem-solving, planning, and invention to create projects. They will use critical thinking and analysis to evaluate their own works as well as the work of fellow designers.

The course focuses on Adobe Creative Cloud software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, to create polished and professional design outcomes. Students will also conduct visual studies of prominent designers and design movements to inform their practice.

This subject provides a strong foundation for Stage 1 Visual Art – Art/Design or Stage 1 Creative Arts.

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the Visual Arts Australian Curriculum achievement standards:

  • Folio of development relating to design brief and process
  • Practical products
  • Visual study: analysis of design careers and history of design
  • Reflection and/or evaluation of others and own design practice

Students will require:

  • USB storage device
  • students may need to purchase additional printing
