SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Students are given the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge of food preparation through planning and preparing a range of food items with a focus on Australia’s multicultural cuisine. They are able to work both independently and collaboratively in conducting research, preparing food and presenting their meals. Food technology and its impact on our diet will be examined through food preservation and how ‘new foods’ are developed.

Topics may include

  • preservation techniques of early civilisations
  • working with bush foods
  • product development using preservation techniques

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the technology and health and physical education Australian Curriculum achievement standards.

  • practical applications
  • written evaluations
  • problem solving
  • investigations
  • written assignments

Additional Information

Cost: $40

Fees may change prior to january 2024 when invoices are sent.

In some instances, students may wish to bring extra ingredients and materials for presentation of work to supplement those provided by the school.

While there are no pre-requisites for this course, some knowledge and skills in food preparation would be an advantage.
