SUBJECT OVERVIEW
Year 10 Humanities is based on the 4 strands from the Australian Curriculum:
History
Students will study the modern world with a focus on Australia from 1918 to the present. Students will study the Second World War and building modern Australia.
Topics may include:
- Australia between the wars
- Significant events of World War II
- Ideologies and people in World War II
- Slavery
- American Civil War and Civil Rights
- The World post World War II
- The rise of the two Super Powers
- The Stolen Generation
Geography
There are two units of study in the Year 10 curriculum for Geography: ‘Environmental change and management’ and ‘Geographies of human wellbeing’. The content of this year level is organised into two strands: geographical knowledge and understanding, and geographical inquiry and skills.
Topics may include:
- Spatial distribution
- Geographical tools
- Developmental geography
- Life in a slum
- Challenges and resilience with solutions
Civics and Citizenship
Students will reinforce their knowledge and skills on Australia's federal system of government by comparing another system of government in an Asian country with Australia's system. Students will reflect on how different government systems support the rights, privileges and responsibilities of their citizens.

- Australia's political system
- Other forms of governance
- Human Rights
- United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- Human Rights Abuse
Economics and Business
Students examine the government arrangements of the economy to improve economic growth and living standards.
