SUBJECT OVERVIEW
This course has a ‘contemporary’ materials focus involving the use of CAD and CNC manufacturing. Students design, produce and assemble a product that employs contemporary design principles, production and assembly techniques, while exploring a range of materials. Students use CAD to plan, design and make their product. Students develop a design folio that includes their investigation, planning, designs and costing. Students will be instructed in the safe use of selected portable tools and fixed machines.
Topics may include
- safe use of static machines
- joint and frame construction
- assembly and finishing techniques
- 3D design and modelling using Autodesk Fusion 360
- safe use of portable power tools
- traditional construction techniques may also be used throughout the semester.
