SACE Stage 1: 10 Credits / 1 Semester / The Arts

Pre-Requisite: An achievement level of “C” or better for year 10 visual art / design / media arts / year 10 literacies

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Design students will complete a visual study through research and analysis on a design form such as visual communications, environmental or fashion design. Students explore and experiment with media and techniques, and resolve to produce practical work. The course includes the development of a brief, research, ideas (concepts) analysis and experimentation with media and techniques, finishing with a final resolution and pitch.

Students intending to progress to Stage 1 Art or Design are advised to also study Art/Design for a semester at year 10. Please note students may choose to Stage 1 Visual Art A and B for both semesters and/or Visual Art Design.

This course can lead to Stage 2 Visual Art/Visual Art Design, Stage 2 Creative Arts.

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the SACE year 11 (Stage 1) Visual Art Design performance standards.


Students demonstrate their learning through the following assessment tasks.

  • visual study
  • folio
  • practical and practitioner’s statement

Additional Information

Students will require: 

  • A3 Folio
  • large USB storage device
  • colour printing is recommended, students should be prepared to spend extra on their printing account
  • any unusual additional material that students individually require
