SUBJECT OVERVIEW

This course develops and enhances students’ mathematical skills through applications relevant to daily life and the analysis and relevance of data. It is suitable for students planning on any future learning including, TAFE, University or other study where a mathematical element is used. This course is a natural extension of general maths methods advance and leads to year 12 general mathematics.

Topics may include

  • statistics
  • graphing and linear functions
  • matrices and networks

Students develop problem solving and analysis skills using a mathematical modelling process and may be required to do some research and gather information from outside of the school as part of this course.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment tasks include:

  • skills and applications tasks (2 tasks)
  • mathematical investigation (2 tasks)

A variety of tasks allow students to develop knowledge, skills and understanding through:

  • innovation and creativity
  • critical thinking and problem solving
  • effective oral and written communication
  • knowledge and understanding

Additional Information

Note that participation in this course requires the purchase of a graphics calculator - Heathfield High School uses the Casio fx-CG50 AU calculators.
