11 Special Interest Volleyball B

SACE Stage 1: 10 Credits / 1 Semester / Health and Physical Education

Pre-Requisite: Successful completion of the Year 10 course.

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Stage 1 Volleyball intergrates physical activity concepts in a practical environment.  With a strong focus on motor learning, teaching and coaching.  Students use data to improve performance, participation and collaboration.

This program can also be a pre-requisite for SACE Stage 2 Physical Education, with the same concepts taught in Stage 1 Physical Education B.

Topics may include

  • Skill Learning, movement concepts and offensive movement strategies
  • Analysis of recovery and continued participation in elite athletes.

All topics are taught through practical play in both indoor and beach volleyball.

ASSESSMENT

Students are required to demonstrate learning in two assessment tasks:

   Peformance Improvement (50%)

  • Analysis of teaching and coaching to support leadership and collaboration of students.

   Physical Activity Investigation (50%)

  • Exploration of motor learning concept in improving learning outcomes at all levels of volleyball.

Additional Information

Students can not undertake both Stage 1 Physical Education B and Stage 1 Volleyball B.

Cost: $80

All subject costs are subject to approval, are approximate and subject to change in 2026. 

It is a requirement for students who select Year 10 Special Interest Volleyball and Stage 1 Volleyball to participate in the following events and trainings:

  • Regular approved Volleyball competition (e.g. Friday Junior League)
  • Regular trainings out of school hours as determined by the program and coaching staff
  • South Australian Volleyball School Cup

It is optional to attend the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (approximate cost $2500).

Students are expected to wear the Volleyball training uniform for all lessons.

Students are expected to abide to the Special Interest Volleyball Program’s Behaviour Agreement.

This course includes the following camps and excursions:

  • Warrnambool Senior Trip (optional) - one school day, two weekend days
  • AVSC Gold Coast (optional) - eight days and nights (held in the final week of term 4)
  • State Cup -  two full school days and one weekend day
  • Squad Day - two full school day
