Pre-Requisite: Successful completion of Stage 1 French

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

Students develop linguistic and intercultural skills, knowledge and understandings to communicate meaningfully with people across cultures. They develop an understanding of how French is used effectively and appropriately using various combinations of the skills of listening, speaking, viewing, reading, and writing for a range of purposes in a variety of contexts. Students explore a range of prescribed themes and topics from the perspectives of diverse individuals and groups in French speaking communities and in their own community.

Topics may include

Learning is organised around three prescribed themes:

  • the individual
  • the French speaking communities
  • the changing world

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed against the SACE Stage 2 French Continuers performance standards:

  • ideas
  • expression
  • interpretations and reflection

School assessment

  • assessment type 1: folio
  • assessment type 2: in-depth study 

External assessment

  • assessment type 3: examination - students provide evidence of their learning through eight to ten assessments, including the external assessment component

Students undertake:

  • three to five assessments for the folio
  • one oral presentation in French, one written response to the topic in French, and one reflective response in English for the in-depth study
  • one oral examination
  • one written examination
