SUBJECT OVERVIEW

In this course students can pursue a contemporary or traditional materials focus. Students design, produce and assemble a product that employs contemporary design principles, production and assembly techniques, while exploring a range of materials. Students use CAD to plan, design and make their product. Students develop a design folio that includes their investigation, planning, designs and costing. Students will be instructed in the safe use of selected portable tools and fixed machines.

  • Design process
  • CAD (Autodesk Fusion 360)
  • CNC router programming
  • Use of fixed machines and portable equipment
  • Assembly techniques
  • Traditional and contemporary techniques
  • Finishing techniques
  • Resource investigation and analysis

ASSESSMENT

This subject includes three assessment types:

  • AT1 - Specialised skills tasks – 20%
  • AT2 - design process & product – 50%
  • AT3 - resources study – 30% (External Assessment)

Students are assessed against the design, technology and engineering SACE performance standards:

  • investigation and analysis
  • design, development and planning
  • production
  • evaluation

Cost: $60 subject fee
